As a feminist and former Roman Catholic theology major, God's operation in the modern woman's soul intrigues Mary Ellen Knox. However, the stage on which her characters act is rarely religious. Bag ladies, prostitutes and "crazy women" populate her mundane, secular and very human settings.  In stories centered on female sexuality, the most powerful tool for reinforcing male social norms, women fight the everyday battle between personal faith and organized religion's often abusive enslavement. She explores age-old human issues, but under a unique female lens, which yields entirely new conclusions based on feminine premises.

Her writing has been published in magazines such as America, Military Chaplains' Review, Daughters of Sarah, Our Family, Peace, and Writer's Workshop Review. She is presently working on an historical novel, Xe Mapia, a retelling of the story of Mary, mother of Jesus, from the woman's perspective.

Mother of six children and eleven times a grandmother, Mary Ellen Knox intimately knows "the stuff life is made of." Striving always to honestly incorporate in her words an understanding of humanity, she creates stories intended to make readers feel, as well as think.

As Editor of Free-fiction.com she is committed to creating a new prestige and pride in being published electronically.   Because of that, she is offering all her works of fiction on this site, reserving none for "better" offers from traditional publishers in the future.
